Event Details
With one of the most haunting scores in all of opera, Weber, founder of German Romantic Opera and Wagnerian forefather, has created a compelling drama that twists reality with supernatural powers and phenomena. A forester, ensnared by dark powers, seeks to ensure his win in a shooting contest. This eerie backdrop of mysterious places and gloomy forests, supporting a grim fairy tale from a bygone age, has never been experienced on Virginia Opera stages! Corey Bix, most recently seen on Virginia Opera stages as Erik in The Flying Dutchman (2016), leads an acclaimed cast that includes soprano Kara Shay Thomson in her Virginia Opera debut, Virginia Opera favorites Katherine Polit and Jake Gardner, and features the famous and thrilling Huntsman’s Chorus! Evoking his signature intensity and captivating drama, internationally renowned director Stephen Lawless (Salome 2015) returns with a production of theatrical virtuosity.
