CommUNITY Play-in and Sing-along

Conceived in part as a healing response to the recent events in our country, join your neighbor and come together to make beautiful music! Whether voice or violin, guitar or trumpet, Norfolk is coming together for a first-of-its-kind community concert. Community musicians will perform alongside musicians of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Virginia Symphony Chorus, for CommUNITY: A Play-in & Sing-along event on Sunday, August 26 from 4:30pm to 6pm at Scope Arena.

The concert is free and open to the public. Listeners will enjoy a wide variety of music from symphonic classics to spiritual hymns and patriotic songs. Performers joining the VSO and VSO Chorus include Teens With A Purpose, Todd Rosenlieb Adaptive Dance, Faith Leaders of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Street Choir, and Elbert Watson, Dance Master at Norfolk Academy, former dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and Artistic Director of the Elbert Watson Dance Company. Barbara Hamm-Lee who hosts “Another View” on WHRV-FM will serve as the emcee of the event and Mayor Kenny Alexander will be on hand for opening remarks. 

Free parking will be available for participants at the Scope Garage, Charlotte Street Garage and Brambleton Lot. The Scope and Charlotte Street garages will have an attendant present to assist as needed, beginning at 1:30pm. Visitors should pull a ticket upon entry; patrons will not be charged on exit. The Brambleton Lot, also free and open to the public, will have attendants on site beginning at 1:30pm.
