In addition, Dr. J, one of the dominant players of his era and an innovator who changed the way the game was played, graced the court at Scope Arena while playing for the Virginia Squires of the ABA.

More recently, local athletes Dorian Finney-Smith from Norcom High School and Elizabeth Williams from Princess Anne High School helped to win basketball titles for their schools at Scope Arena during the men and women’s finals of the Eastern Region Basketball Tournament in 2010.  Kent Bazemore, an ODU alumnus who currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, also displayed his exceptional talent at Norfolk Scope when he helped advance ODU to the CIT quarters with a 65-56 win over USC in 2012.
