NATO's 16th Supreme Allied Commander

James Stavridis attended the US Naval Academy and spent 37 years in the Navy. He served as NATO's 16th Supreme Allied Commander for four years, overseeing operations in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, the Balkans, and counter piracy off the coast of Libya. He was the longest serving Combatant Commander in recent US military history. ADM Stavridis has published ten books on leadership, the oceans, maritime affairs, and Latin America. His most recent book, 2034: A Novel of the Next World War, was a New York Times bestseller. ADM Stavridis is a contributing editor for TIME Magazine and he serves as Vice Chair, Global Affairs and Managing Director of the Carlyle Group and Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Rockefeller Foundation.
