We are sorry to inform you that the Hong Kong Ballet Alice (in wonderland) performances scheduled for April 17, 18, 19, 2020 at Chrysler Hall have been postponed due to the recent developments related to the current coronavirus outbreak. The company’s upcoming tour to the U.S. will be postponed to a future season.

“We are saddened to announce the postponement of our Hong Kong Ballet performances,” said Virginia Arts Festival Perry Artistic Director Robert W. Cross. “Our hearts go out to the dancers, who have dedicated their lives to their art, winning international acclaim for their performances. But our first concern must be for the safety of the dancers. We remain committed to bringing this great company to the Festival in the near future and will announce rescheduled dates as soon as possible.”

When choreographer and director Septime Webre joined the Hong Kong Ballet in 2017, after 17 years at The Washington Ballet, he brought with him a fierce energy, boundless imagination, and a pocketful of inspired ballets including his brilliantly conceived staging of Alice in Wonderland. Based on the Lewis Carroll classic, the ballet features eye-popping costumes by Liz Vandal of Cirque du Soleil, vivid stagecraft, and the phenomenal dancing of this internationally acclaimed ballet company. Look for a delightfully loony Mad Hatter, a villainous Red Queen, airborne antics of Tweedledum and Tweedledee, and all your favorite characters brought to vivacious life.
