Garden of Hope Unity Recognition & Awards
"Say No to Domestic Violence"

The Garden of Hope Community Development Corporation (GHCDC) was officially organized in late 2008. The GHCDC is the realization of the vision of Dr. Kirk T. Houston, Sr., pastor and founder of Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church. The Garden of Hope was created as a means to provide services, programs and resources to families and individuals experiencing social, economic and moral deficits. The Garden of Hope is designed to be both an extension of ministry and an individualized effort to provide a level of social services to families and individuals beyond what the church traditionally offers in the standard faith setting.

Each year, the Garden of Hope Community Development Corporation seeks to identify and recognize individuals and organizations that are making a significant, positive impact in our community.  The Garden of Hope’s Unity Awards and Recognition program is the event used to honor and recognize these individuals and/or organizations.

This year’s program will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015, at the historic Crispus Attucks Theater located at 1010 Church Street, Norfolk, Virginia. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and  the program will begin at 7:00 p.m. The program promises to provide an evening of celebration, entertainment and heartwarming presentations. The evening will feature musical guests and video presentations of the esteemed honorees.  This year’s honorees have made significant contributions to the community as a result of their commitment to domestic violence awareness and prevention.

Honorees include the following individuals and organizations:
Larrisa Sutherland of Safe Harbor Center of Virginia Beach
Ms. Cathy Staton from the My Help, My Hope organization
Brittany Turnage from Green Run High School
The Gamma XI Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the Gamma XI Uplift Foundation
The Masonic Riders Motorcycle Club of Norfolk
