2017 Scope Holiday Classic

The City of Norfolk is pleased to announce the return of the 2017 Norfolk Scope Holiday Basketball Classic! The games will take place from December 26th - December 28th and involve eight of the area's finest high school teams. The 5th annual holiday classic will showcase the region's immense pool of talent in boys’ basketball. Bruce Phelps, former Coordinator of Student Activities for Virginia Beach City Public Schools, will serve as the 2017 Holiday Basketball Classic Director. The following schools will be represented in this year’s holiday invitational:

• Floyd E. Kellam
• Ocean Lakes
• Maury
• Salem
• Booker T. Washington
• John Handley
• Granby
   

Norfolk Scope Arena has played host to a number of top sporting events in the region and is well known as an established all-purpose sports facility in Hampton Roads. Past basketball events held at Scope Arena have featured such greats as Indian River's Alonzo Mourning, Bethel's Allen Iverson and Maury's Joe Smith, all of whom had all-star careers in the NBA. In addition, Dr. J, one of the dominant players of his era and an innovator who changed the way the game was played, graced the court at Scope Arena while playing for the Virginia Squires of the ABA.
