Straight No Chaser
Straight No Chaser is a 10-man, a cappella group founded at Indiana University in 1996. Their vintage video performance clip of “The 12 Days of Christmas,” posted by a group alum, became a YouTube phenomena in 2007. It received 7 million views over the holiday and caught the attention of Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, who offered and signed the reunited alumni to a contract.
Now men in their 30s, with day jobs and families, the post-viral Straight No Chaser recorded their holiday-themed debut at a studio in Bloomington, Indiana, with A&R veteran Steve Lunt (Britney Spears, N’Sync, Backstreet Boys) overseeing the production.
Helped along by timely television appearances, Holiday Sprits had the fifth highest pre-order in Atlantic Records’ history when it debuted in October 2008. The album was a runaway hit at iTunes and Amazon.com. With a reality show in the works, the former Hoosier student singers may not make it back for homecoming next year.
